What is Dimentricy?

You won’t find the word “dimentricy” in the dictionary…yet. It is a word I made up (much as I do with the stories I write…they are all made up). The term comes from my novel Enchantress of Turquoise Sky, and is defined as:

The art and science of perceiving and interacting with dimensions beyond those in which we typically inhabit.

I mainly write in the genre of Contemporary Fantasy. My stories deal with settings that will be familiar to most of us. But there are also things going on nearby, or even right next to, our own dimensions that are fantastic to imagine. Our world, but a little bit different in some ways, more unusual in others.

My subtitle, “The Fantasy of Modern Reality” is a double entendre. In a literal sense, my stories are fantasies placed in contemporary contexts. But also, doesn’t our modern reality seem kind of unreal? Is the world we see through various media, in the way public figures present themselves, in how we shift our own personas at work, home, and at play, entirely real? There’s more to everything than we can imagine beyond our ability to perceive them.
